Lake Finfarine
Are you staying in Poiroux or Les Sables-d’Olonne and looking to stretch your legs in a rural setting? Accessible to walkers of all ages, the tour of Lac de Finfarine is just what you need.
All about Lake Finfarine
Just 10 km from our 4-star Vendée campsite in Talmont, this 3 km, 50-hectare lake was created at the end of the 19th century from the Payré stream to supply water to the Talmondais region. Today, the reservoir holds 1,500,000m3 of water. The walk takes you around the lake valley, which is home to an abundance of flora and fauna.
Walk around the lake from Le Poiroux
Rated easy, the walk will take you 8 hours: ideal for a picnic day and a siesta on the verdant shores of the lake. You’ll make a loop starting from Poiroux town hall square and following the footpath around the valley. Along the way, you’ll see the Finfarine dam, built in 1939, and the Sorin dam, built in 1968, which regulate water flow and supply the drinking water plant. Fishing enthusiasts can set up on the banks of the lake (presentation of a fishing licence is required), while canoeists in Les Sables d’Olonne can have a great time on the lake, where non-motorized boats are permitted. You can also take advantage of the picnic areas and explore the green expanses to observe the local flora and fauna. A day of rejuvenation guaranteed from our campsite near Les Sables d’Olonne!
