The Pointe du Payré at Jard-sur-Mer
Located in the Vendée commune of Jard-sur-Mer, the Pointe du Payré is one of the region’s most beautiful natural sites. The site combines sublime coastal panoramas with a wide variety of geological features: canyons, eroded land, black sand and Mediterranean forest… If you’re staying at a campsite in Jard-sur-Mer and you love the sea, geology or simply hiking, this is the place for you!
Accessible to all ages, the Pointe du Payré walks give you a great view of the Payré estuary as you cross a variety of landscapes: beach, plateau, forest… You can do the walk in the afternoon and finish it off on one of the nearby beaches: the itinerary takes around 1h30 for 5 km.
Start off after the Lieu-Dieu abbey, then continue along the Plage de la Mine before reaching a plateau overlooking the sea, where there are strata of Jurrassic and Hercynian terrain. Be careful not to get too close to the edge to avoid falling. Following the path, continue along the cliffs, some of which have been eroded by the elements, are particularly fragile and should be kept clear of pedestrians. A canyon precedes the promontory of La Pointe, offering a beautiful panorama of the sea. The path then takes you gently back to the beach, completing the loop of the walk near our 4-star campsite in the Vendée.
