Fishing in the Vendée
Are you a seafood lover? Good news: the Vendée region abounds in beaches and fishing spots. It’s an activity that’s accessible to all ages, provided you’re properly equipped and prepared.
The most beautiful fishing spots in Vendée
From L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer to Saint-Jean-de-Monts, choose the location of your choice according to the seafood you’re interested in near our 4-star campsite in Vendée. The area around Noirmoutier is highly recommended if you want to harvest fine oysters. The nearby beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Monts are ideal for pignons, tasty bivalve shellfish. For winkles and crabs, the beaches of na Normandelière or Marais-Girard (near Brétignolles-sur-Mer) have an excellent reputation among connoisseurs.
If, for you, angling on foot is above all an opportunity to survey beautiful seascapes, we recommend the Grouin du Cou beach, near La Tranche-sur-Mer: this prehistoric site reveals a magnificent natural setting as soon as the sea recedes. A great way to learn this discipline.
Regulations and advice on shore fishing
There are a few safety precautions to keep in mind before you start: first, make sure you have mud-friendly shoes, a scraper or knife, and a bucket full of seawater in which to soak your shellfish while fishing. Next, select seafood that corresponds to the sizes and quantities in force to respect the marine ecosystem: 4 cm and 5 kg for mussels, 5 cm and three dozen for oysters, 3 cm and 3 kg for cockles, 2.5 cm and 2 kg for pine nuts. Finally, before you leave, make sure the weather is favorable, and never leave without telling someone close to you where you’ll be fishing and how long you’ll be gone.
