Le Château des Aventuriers

The King of Menhirs megaliths
Discover the megaliths of the Roi des Menhirs during your Avrillé camping holiday. In days gone by, the Avrillé commune abounded in Menhirs, which were used and destroyed to supply the blue granite construction sites.
The Sables-d’Olonne jetty was even built with some of them. The year 1887 marked the end of the slaughter, and Samuel Guiet saved a few of them, including the Menhir du camp César, listed as a Monument Historique. It is 7 m high and weighs 85,000 kg! It can be seen on rue Georges Clemenceau in the Hôtel de Ville garden.
